Empowerment for Artists

Art is when you hear a knocking from your soul – and you answer. ~ Terri Guillemets

I began to question my artistic path in 2010 when I realized that, for me, making art to sell lacked something… Studio work and forming long lasting business relationships was wonderful but I was feeling a void.  I sensed that I needed to do something BIGGER with my life.  Empowering and educating others called to me.

After an abundance of art courses at the University of Michigan’s School of Art & Design, I decided to try design and left for the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. While in Manhattan I spent many years as a designer then developed my business acumen in wholesale fashion with Perry Ellis Portfolio Menswear then as the Director of Merchandising and Operations for Isaac Mizrahi, Ltd.. Leaving the corporate world for Motherhood and creative entrepreneurship,  I successfully used my business expertise to grow my jewelry line, doing wholesale shows, working with a sales rep and selling in Henri Bendel, Bloomingdales, galleries, museums and artisan shops. While as a professional, multi-media artist I KNEW that business training wasn’t offered in art school or out because I had to teach MYSELF business skills, and the hundreds of other creatives I met through my art journey continued to struggle to succeed with their skill set.

My epiphany occurred when I saw the intersection: My creative business expertise +  lack of creative entrepreneurial training opportunities = igniting and empowerment movement for artists!

I began working with other artists while still living in New York;  a jewelry designer in England; a Texas painter who wanted to get licensed, a gallery owner in New Jersey, and my coaching grew – slowly, while I raised my three children as a single Mother.

Since moving back home to Michigan in 2014, DABI is running smoothly and still growing. I’m blessed to have empowered hundreds of creative entrepreneurs to move past their business fears and into freedom, clarity and profits through my transformational, mindful business coaching and/or my Mind Your Art Business Growth course (online and in-person).  And I’m constantly increasing my private clients and adding workshops and online education.

A consummate connector, I don’t just educate, I also support my clients and graduates through introductions to people that can help them achieve their goals and love when small businesses that I’ve “matched” produce greatness together. I’m still working on doing something BIG, BIG, BIG and have developed a startup called, Embrace Creatives. Launching soon, Embrace Creatives is a professional network/marketplace where artists meet businesses – think, LinkedIn for Artists.
