Easy Steps to Plan Your Creative Business Blog Content

Yeah, you have beautiful work on your website but do you have a blog filled with content?  Did you KNOW that search engines don’t view images when answering search results? So if someone is searching for visual merchandiser or wholesale jewelry in Detroit, they will have a harder time finding you if you mainly have images.  The titles of your images do count but not as highly as text inside your website, so let’s get you writing!

I know you’re busy so below I outline a fairly simple plan to help you publish strategic content that your visitors will engage with.

Firstly, don’t just write. You need to set goals then create article to help you reach them. Do you want to reach more people?
Get more clients to comment on your work? Build loyalty? Increase leads and customers?  Use my FREE Goal Setting workshop to set clear strategies.

Secondly, before you begin setting up your content schedule it’s important that you KNOW who you’re speaking to! Who is your client? What do they want to learn from you? You should be creating content for your audiences’ needs and interests as well as writing what excites you. Once you have your GOALS and CLIENT(s) PERSONA set it’s time to set up your calendar!

Get out a sheet of paper or open up a spreadsheet in your computer (I used Google Docs to create the sample below). Here’s a few types of articles you can write;

1.) How To

2.) Lists (the best, the worst…)

3.) Product Reviews

4.) Interviews

And of course you can design your own.

Once you have your list of articles for the time period you want to write (3 months, 6 months, 12 months) you need to add a few more items to each post idea;

– Publish date

– Headline

– Keywords (they must easily and naturally fit inside your writing – don’t force them)

– Call to action (do you want them to click on a link?)

– Images(s) *use your own images but if you use stock photos, make sure they’re free and try to credit the source

– Link(s)

Take the time to prepare all of this and then it’s just a matter of getting it onto your content calendar, writing the blog and adding pertinent information from your calendar (links, keywords and/or images). Oh, does your business need to post around a specific holiday? If so, make sure you add that into your content calendar.

Now it’s time to get writing ideas! Review your social media accounts and see what subjects are not only being created but what’s getting the most “likes” and shares”. If those subjects fit your expertise and would engage your clients then add it to your content calendar. Just make sure NEVER to copy directly from someone else’s blog. Just like you don’t want someone copying your artwork… No plagiarizing, please.

Better Emails for Professional Relationships

Once you have your topics in your content list, add them to your calendar based upon the Publish Date and make sure to give yourself time to write them!

After posting articles on your website for 6 months or more, you can review their popularity inside Google Analytics to see what topics are most read/loved by your readers.

Yeah, it’s work but planning out your blog content to achieve goals is an incredible way to raise your website in the search engines, keep your creative juices flowing and connect with your clients!  Happy writing!
